I saw this project a long time ago on Design*Sponge and have been wanting to try it ever since. So we finally got around to completing one door.
We started with this:
We bought trim at Home Depot and attached it to the door after sanding:
A few coats of black paint later... and BAM!
Remind me why I didn't do this sooner?? Only 8 more to go... oh and still need handles!
WORLD of difference! Now, if only everyone knew how to turn those builder-standard doors into something so nice.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Huge difference! I have been spray painting all the interior door knobs in my house from gold to black... a big project, but another one that makes a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteGREAT job! We looked at a ton of homes yesterday and it's amazing what a difference a good door makes. I'm sure you just added so much value to re-sale and now you can be so proud every time you see your doors! ;-)

LOVE it! Looks so chic now, great choice with the black paint. How much did the trim cost you (if you don't mind)? I've been debating between adding trim or getting the paneled doors that are like $30.
ReplyDeletei have wanted to do the same thing do my doors, i think you may have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteGreat update! Simple with huge impact.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!! Not only the door, but the white trim. Yep - I am for sure going to have to copy you and do this! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWoW! That door looks so modern now. I love the tranformation. (p.s. Thanks for visiting my blog. The herringbone backsplash took a bit more work than traditional subway tile, but wasn't too difficult.)
ReplyDeleteOh it looks awesome! Thanks for stopping by TN! I hope you pop by again! Now im going to peruse your goodies!! <3

ReplyDeleteGreat improvement I once tried mine but chickened out, then again my walls are black and that was too much black in one room.
ReplyDeleteVery well done!! I cannot wait to see what you'd choose for the hardware!
ReplyDeleteOMG That is an amazing transformation & I love black doors I hope you dont mind if I forward this link to my husband.
ReplyDeletelooks gorgeous! what a transformation.

ReplyDeleteWow, that door looks great! It wouldn't have even occurred to me to do something like that--but I think it's something I could actually do. maybe.
ReplyDeletesuch a difference! now the knob will really pop. xo

ReplyDeleteOh, I've been dying to try that!! It looks fabulous, great job. :) (And I love the fact that you painted the doors black!)
ReplyDeleteThis little project has been on my to-do list for a long time. I think you just bump it up to the top of the list. You did a fantastic job!!
ReplyDeletenice!! i am going to be calling you when hubs and i do find this house....you are truly transforming yours!
ReplyDeleteWHOA! I honestly have been wondering what to do with our doors.... Maybe black (or another dark color) would be this dramatic!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! I remember seeing this feature on Design*Sponge and now that we are living in a house with bland, flat doors I may give this a try. Your door turned out A-mazing!
ReplyDeleteoh it makes a big difference. and of course i love the pup in the photo:)gina
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea! I'm replacing my interior doors and this might be just the thing to make them extra special.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea!!! Amazing transformation!

Great idea! A shabby looking door now looks elegant and presentable. Who would have thought that it was once ugly and had no character to it? Look at it now; it looks impressive with its color!
