Black Trim. Yes or no?

When repainting the guest bedroom, I wanted to try out a little black trim around the door frames. I LOVE the way it turned out but husband vetoed it before I could even get a word out. Now, to his defense, we are going to be selling this house in the near future and that definitely might not be appealing to all. But, I wanted to see what you all thought of it? Is this something you would ever do? Maybe in my next house :)

Oh, and please excuse the mess in the closet!

Guest Bedroom Drapes

I SEWED drapes for the guest room. I am pretty impressed with myself. Yes, I know you just sew four straight lines but let me bask in my success :)

There really is no good angle in this room and it doesn't help that I took it at night...

After looking at this picture, I am thinking I need to hem them up a little more. Oh well!

A few things...

I'm a little behind schedule today but better late than never, right?? Got a few things done this weekend like blinds going up in the guest bedroom...

I also got my cute little monkey in the mail from 20x200. Not sure where in the guest bedroom he is going yet.. but don't you love him??

The funny this about this weekend is that I decided to take Saturday away from the computer, blogs, e-mail and Craigslist. Sounded like a good idea at the time. Wrong. Look what I missed on CL...

Posted Saturday. 11 am on the dot. Ironic, eh? Guess I won't be taking any more breaks.

DIY Monogrammed Pillow

I saw this tutorial over at k.f.d. designs and knew it would be perfect for the guest bedroom! Check out her post for the full tutorial and I will give my two cents here :)

I started by tracing my monogram straight from the computer screen onto paper.

Then used spray glue to attach the paper to the felt. {which really is genius by the way... this way you don't have to trace and leave marks, etc} Then just cut those babies out!

Annnd this is where my two cents comes in. Don't use too much spray glue or you will end up with this when the paper comes off... A little goes a long way here.

After round 2 we have this... much better!

Then a little hot glue and voila! A custom monogrammed pillow!

Did you see the new striped pillows, too? I ordered a couple from West Elm and love the way it looks! A nice way to add the pattern and color without buying the full sheet set. {I will just use white sheets}

And yes, I do still realize it is just a box spring on the bed. I promise we are taking care of this soon! Probably even tonight!!

Just call me Picasso

I am getting close to wrapping up the guest bedroom and needed some art for the walls. I have been lusting over this piece from Anthro for quite some time and decided it was time to recreate it!

I went with a deeper blue than the original because the light blue reads a little baby boy room to me. {I know it looks black in the picture, but its blue!}

What do you think? I am pleased since it only cost me about $15 and the original is $2000. Now I just need a frame! I also have a special piece of artwork on the way that I can't wait to share!!

Weekend Recap

What a wonderful weekend it was! With temperatures slowly rising, the snow is finally disappearing! Since it was so nice out, I took advantage and sprayed a side table for the guest bedroom. I used this nightstand in college and think I picked it up at Ross for around $20 a few years ago.

I decided to go black and leave the bamboo table as is {thanks, Joi!} The paint is still a little wet in this picture. I wanted to photograph it before I ran out of light!

Here is what it looked like before...

I also picked up a few accessories for my bathroom!

The jar is from World Market and the tray is from an antique store. I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Oh and Happy Valentine's Day :)

Guest Bedroom Update

A few new purchases have made their way into the room... a little color, finally! I told you about this rug a few weeks ago here and it finally found a home!

I also picked up a few of the pillows I showed you Tuesday for the bed. {Yes, I realize that is just a box springs on the bed right now. It is a long story and will be fixed soon...}

The nightstand on the left side of the bed isn't staying. I have something a little taller that is getting a new paint job. I will share next week!

Guest Room Bed

We put the bed together for the guest bedroom and I love it! I have been eying this bed from IKEA for quite some time now and knew it would be perfect for the room!

I know it is a lot of white right not but trust me, it won't stay this way for long.
I received the tray I ordered from Furbish that will serve as the color inspiration for the room... I am getting excited!

Guest Bedroom Update

Finally have the ceilings scraped and the paint up! How rewarding :) In case you forgot what it looked like before, here is another view:

And here we are now. The paint color is Glidden Muslin White. On a side note, I hate Glidden paint and will be getting it color matched next time.

Up next is a special door project, crown molding and a new light fixture! Oh and there might be some stripes, too.

This is just bad...

I have made a pact with myself to paint one of our guest bedrooms this weekend. I feel so bad for anyone who comes to stay with us because we have done absolutely nothing to it. I embarrassed to admit I have let this go on for so long... but hey, I have to share the good and the bad, right?

Goal for the weekend? Paint the walls and scrape the popcorn ceilings... Are you tackling any projects this weekend?
