Before and After: Doors

I saw this project a long time ago on Design*Sponge and have been wanting to try it ever since. So we finally got around to completing one door.

We started with this:

We bought trim at Home Depot and attached it to the door after sanding:

A few coats of black paint later... and BAM!

Remind me why I didn't do this sooner?? Only 8 more to go... oh and still need handles!

WORLD of difference! Now, if only everyone knew how to turn those builder-standard doors into something so nice.

WOW! Huge difference! I have been spray painting all the interior door knobs in my house from gold to black... a big project, but another one that makes a huge difference!

GREAT job! We looked at a ton of homes yesterday and it's amazing what a difference a good door makes. I'm sure you just added so much value to re-sale and now you can be so proud every time you see your doors! ;-)

LOVE it! Looks so chic now, great choice with the black paint. How much did the trim cost you (if you don't mind)? I've been debating between adding trim or getting the paneled doors that are like $30.

WoW! That door looks so modern now. I love the tranformation. (p.s. Thanks for visiting my blog. The herringbone backsplash took a bit more work than traditional subway tile, but wasn't too difficult.)

Great improvement I once tried mine but chickened out, then again my walls are black and that was too much black in one room.

Wow, that door looks great! It wouldn't have even occurred to me to do something like that--but I think it's something I could actually do. maybe.

WHOA! I honestly have been wondering what to do with our doors.... Maybe black (or another dark color) would be this dramatic!

This is such a great idea! I remember seeing this feature on Design*Sponge and now that we are living in a house with bland, flat doors I may give this a try. Your door turned out A-mazing!

Great idea! A shabby looking door now looks elegant and presentable. Who would have thought that it was once ugly and had no character to it? Look at it now; it looks impressive with its color!
